The Southern Miss men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams sent a small group to compete in the LSU Twilight meet this past Friday.

Senior Christopher Monroe broke his own school record in the triple jump with a jump of 15.52m (50’11”). Monroe’s record- setting jump was good enough for third place.

Senior Jamar Sims finished sixth in the long jump with a jump of of 6.81m (22’04.25”).

On the women’s side, Brashe Wood and Danisha Jones held fifth and sixth place finishes in their competitions. Wood tossed the weight 16.73m (54’10.75”). Jones had a mark of 16.65m (54’07.50”).

Kayla Taylor led the Golden Eagles in the shot put portion of the competition with a toss of 13.10m (42-11.75) to finish second. Jones threw the weighted ball 12.60m (41’04.25”) to finish in third place. Wood finished fourth, throwing a 12.48m (40’11.50”).

Annette Gaskins placed fourth with a jump of 5.60m (18’04.50) in the long jump. While, Sharday Branch jumped 5.27m (17’03.50”) and finished in ninth place.

The Golden Eagles return to the track, February 24-25 in Birmingham, Ala. at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championship.
