The WUSM 2016 Round for Roots Southern Miss Radio will be held on Monday, April 25. The annual event will begin with lunch and registration at 11:30 a.m., followed by an afternoon of golf at Canebrake Country Club.
“Hattiesburg is a place of culture. And education. And history. And the arts,” said David Gustafson, WUSM Golf Tournament Chair. “Nothing ties those elements together more than WUSM.”
Registration for the event is $125 an individual, $500 a team and includes lunch, free on-course beverages, unlimited 19th hole access and a gift bag. The revenue raised by the event will go directly to funding WUSM’s future endeavors.
“We’ve done this tournament before, and everyone that has been associated from the past as a player or sponsor has had a blast,” said Wilbur Martin, general manager at WUSM.
“The money coming in from players and sponsors is really necessary for us to provide the equipment for the radio program and the experience students would need to go into
the commercial world.”
The tournament is the radio station’s largest fundraising event of the year. This year will be the sixth time the event has been held.
Part of the golf contest will be a special large cash prize sponsored by Hattiesburg- Laural Regional Airport, Jump’In, Newk’s and Southern Mississippi Federal Credit Union for the individual or team that gets a hole in one on the course.
WUSM is the Pine Belt’s sole community radio station and provides college students with hands-on experience within the radio industry. It offers a wide variety of music, focusing on southern-bred genres and alternative artists.
