Showcase highlights exiting graphic design talent

On April 20, the Department of Graphic Design showcased student artwork at the 2016 Senior Show in Graphic Design from 5 – 7 p.m. in the George Hurst Building.

The show acted as the final part of students’ senior projects.

Senior graphic design major Cody Bass said for his project, he decided to brand a mock type foundry called Friendly Font Co. and develop a typeface called “Fellow.” Bass said the font is derived from blackletter typeface associated with diplomas and even Nazi Germany.

“I absolutely love typography and hand lettering, so I thought this project would be a great way to combine my favorite aspects of design,” Bass said. “Because this project lasts all semester long, I wanted to make sure I did something that would challenge me and that I would enjoy developing in-depth.”

Senior graphic design major Mallory Stubbs said her project was “off-beat” and “based on funky, unusual and healthy ingredients.”

“I have a weird obsession with beets,” Stubbs said. “I really enjoy living a healthy lifestyle so I kind of wanted to share that with everyone around me.”

The showcase continues through April 27. For info, visit usm.edu/calendar/4-2016/2016-senior-show-graphic-design
