After winning the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic, the Lady Eagles extended their win streak to three games beating Mississippi Valley State, 83-55.

The Lady Eagles found themselves in an early hole, 6-2.  Once the Lady Eagles settled in, they went on a 19-4 run that helped end the first quarter with a 25-10 lead.

“We did a great job of executing our gameplan we put a lot of pressure on the ball [which] resulted in a lot of easy shots,” said Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis. “We shared the basketball. It was just fun for ten minutes.”
Despite stumbling early in the game, MVSU slowly began trying to claw their way back going on a 12-4 run to help them narrow the score at 34-22.After a Lady Eagle timeout, they scored six points in 30 seconds to swing the momentum back in their favor.The Lady Eagles closed the half 42-22 with senior Brittanny Dinkins and junior Jayla King combing for 23 points.King herself compiled 20 points at the end of the night and was 7-of-11 from the field.

The third period was a rough start for the Lady Eagles.  MVSU made some early defensive stands putting pressure on the Lady Eagles forcing several turnovers.MVSU then began to full-court press for the rest of the third quarter cutting the lead to just ten points, 60-50.Turnovers plagued the Lady Eagles totaling 22 with 37 points being scored from them.
The Lady Eagles continued their offensive dominance going on a 20-5 run in the last period to give them the win. Dinkins recorded her first double-double of her career, ten assists and tying her season-high of 24 points.To add to her night, she was 8-of-8 on the free throw line, had eight rebounds and tied her career best of seven steals. The entire team itself was 22-of-28 on the free throw line.

“What I have challenged them all week is ‘you gotta play against the game,’”Lee-McNelis said. “No matter who the opponent is, whether were up twenty or were down twenty, none of that matter its playing against the game. It is against ourselves and we must get better in every possession.If we can grasp that concept, then no matter who we play it’s our best on every possession.  If we compete against that, then you’ll see this team continue to grow.”

The Lady Eagles will go on the road to face South Alabama on Dec. 4.
