In the first day of the UNF Collegiate, Southern Miss shot 301 and 299 to finish the day tied for fifth place with Daytona State College. The Lady Eagles sat out of the top spot by five strokes, which was held by both The University of Memphis and Old Dominion at 596.
Sophomores Henriette Syr and Valentina Haupt both shot 149, leading the way for Southern Miss, which was tied at 13th overall. Syr also sunk the team’s only eagle on the day at hole 14 during the second round.
Senior Kelly Erasmus also completed a strong first round shooting a 74, and Junior Nichada Satasuk shot an even par in the second round with 72. Both ladies finished the day with 152 strokes, tied at 28th overall.
Sana Tufail of Old Dominion sat at 1st place overall by shooting a 140 in the first two rounds, 2-under par.
Entering Day two with a 601 score, the Southern Miss Women’s Golf team finished the UNF Collegiate in Jacksonville, Fl. tied for first place with a two-day score of 895.
After the first two rounds, the Lady Eagles sat only five strokes out of the top spot and were tied at fifth place with a 601. On Day two, Southern Miss shot a 294 in the final round, the lowest round total of any school for the entire tournament.
The Lady Eagles tied with the University of Memphis, who shot a 299 on the day enabling them to finish both days in first place, respectively.
Sophomore Henriette Syr of Norway shot a 224 in three rounds, including eight birdies and an eagle, finishing as the highest-ranked Lady Eagle tied at 14th overall. Not far behind were Nichada Satasuk and Valentina Haupt, who both shot 225 finishing tied for 17th overall.
Seniors Emily Ross and Erasmus also had strong final rounds, shooting two-over par and an even par, respectively. Erasmus tied for 21st overall, while Ross tied for 39th overall.
The first place overall individual winner was Old Dominion’s Sana Tufail, who shot a 213 for the tournament, one-under par.
This win marks the Lady Eagle’s third of the season and their fifth Top-3 finish.
