WNBC News Anchor Chuck Scarborough visited the University of Southern Mississippi on Oct. 16 for a ceremony held in his honor after his generous donation to the “Charles Bishop Scarborough III Television Studio Suite” in College Hall.

Scarborough was inducted into the Southern Mississippi Mass Communication and Journalism Hall of Fame in 2013 and has been awarded 33 Emmy Awards in broadcast journalism.

Of his awards, Scarborough is most well known for an Emmy on his special coverage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Scarborough spoke to several journalism classes while visiting his alma mater, telling his life story and answering questions from students.

He offered advice to students aspiring to become news anchors on large television networks.

“Before becoming a news anchor, it is good to practice reporting locally,” Scarborough said.

Following his four years of service in the U.S. Air Force, Scarborough began his broadcasting career at WLOX in Biloxi.

After working at WLOX, Scarborough moved to Hattiesburg where he worked at WDAM as a news anchor and reporter while working towards a degree in Radio and TV at Southern Miss in 1968.

Following graduation, Scarborough worked at WAGA in Atlanta from 1969-1972. He was a news anchor and reporter at WAGA, but he also edited all production of news.

In 1972 Scarborough moved to Boston where he worked as a news anchor and reporter at WNAC for two years until he was hired as an anchor at WNBC in New York.

Scarborough began working at WNBC in New York in 1974 where he still works as an anchor today.
