Southern Miss continued its historic 2022 season by collecting a program-best fifteenth consecutive victory by defeating Southeastern Louisiana 9-4.
The previous record was set in 2017 with 14 consecutive wins.ย
The Golden Eagles hold the second-longest current win streak in college baseball according to Southern Miss Stats and Info, as well as the longest road winning streak at 12 games.
The win streak began April 3 with an 8-0 shutout of Louisiana Tech following a 4-2 defeat the day before.
The other teams Southern Miss has conquered during the streak include Ole Miss, Charlotte (3x), Southeastern Louisiana (2x), FIU (3x), Tulane, New Orleans and Rice (3x).
The Golden Eagles have scored an average of over seven runs per game while allowing an average of approximately three runs per game.
The Golden Eagles jumped to an early 6-0 lead over Southeastern Louisiana after scoring three runs each in the second and third innings.
Danny Lynch began the scoring with a solo home run in thesecond, followed by two-run double by Dustin Dickerson. Charlie Fischer, Danny Lynch and Rodrigo Montenegro each notched RBIs in the third.
Southeastern made the game close at 7-4 in the fifth inning, but a Christopher Sargent two-run homer dashed the Lionsโ hopes at a comeback.
Matthew Adams recorded his first win of the season after going 3.2 innings and allowing two runs on five hits with six strikeouts.
Landon Harper recorded his ninth save of the season after recording four outs while giving up no hits.
The Golden Eagles advance to 33-8 (16-2, C-USA) in the 2022 season.
Southern Miss currently ranks at No. 4 in the nation, but they have an opportunity to go even higher after No. 3 Miami lost at home to Stetson University 12-4 Tuesday.
Tuesdayโs victory was equally important for head coach Scott Berry as he tied Hill Denson in all-time wins in team history at 468.
Berry has an opportunity to become the winningest coach in Southern Miss baseball history with a weekend series at UAB (23-16) starting Friday.
History continues for Southern Miss, and the Golden Eagles are not showing any signs of slowing down.
