According to SpringTide’s 2020 study Belonging: Reconnecting America’s Loneliest Generation, one in three young people said they feel completely alone most of the time; forty-five percent said they feel completely alone most of the time; forty-five percent said they feel that no one understands them; and just as frightening, forty percent said they have no one to talk to and feel left out. “When seeking pleasure or reward in life, Gen-Z over-indexes for shopping, entertainment, sports, and adventure and under-index for travel and “me” time” (2023).
According to Innova Market Insights, “37% of Gen Z claims to be moderately or very active socially” (2023). What happened to the other 63%? What do they do? Are they the left-out ones? Among such Neurodivergent and complex personalities, the other latter ones likely feel odd for their likings and propensities. In cognizance of the aforementioned statistics, 63% probably enjoy the “me” time where their accomplices are themselves and the breath of life. They are probably overwhelmed being around people and are deemed odd for their preferences, unfortunately. Per such circumstances, they retreat to their shells, forming tough walls around them, marking very susceptible territories that appear fickle before their predator’s eyes – all in the name of feeling odd and not enough. If only they knew…
In a world where everyone is concerned with following the crowd, it has never been easier to stand out. There is a special reason why no one understands you. There’s a special reason why you feel left out. Most make the mistake of trying to adhere to the adjoints of the majority to fit in. Many of us are left out and trying to fit in because we try to conform to what we think others think we should look like – especially those that don’t sit right with us. The issue with this is that we are all built differently and adhering to the norms of others is the first regret we will ever have. An oasis of power, truth, and virtue lies within our humanity, and to win and stand out, we must embrace and nurture that oasis by doing what sits right with us logically and not the norms of others.
Our trajectories as humans are as unique as our brains. When we try to conform to the upper-indexed activities despite our displeasure with them, we risk attracting what should not be ours and losing what should be ours. By sticking to the truth of our human oasis, in whatever ideal that may be, we find the true power of our humanity and find and build our tribe. By embracing our “odd” behaviors, we build up and nurture such self-awareness, self-development, and self-mastery that will propel us forward. We are special in our own way. Embrace your oddity and stick to your authenticity, so that you attract that which you rightly deserve. By embracing authenticity and dropping blind conformity, you will attract more than you can imagine.
An intricate symphony of over 86 billion neurons; a pulsating metropolis of over 100 trillion synapses; a cosmic ballet of over 100 billion neurotransmitter molecules per second; all these lie within our brain. Among us all, this organ is very unique. As aforementioned, our trajectories are as unique as our brains. Therefore, avoid blind conformity to avoid altering your destined trajectories. Stay odd, stay authentic, embrace your trajectory, and attract your destiny. We’re all in this together. We rise by lifting others.
