Lillian Collins, the president of Kappa Delta sorority at The University of Southern Mississippi recently won the Corre Anding Stegall Collegiate Leadership Award, in recognition of her outstanding leadership skills within the chapter and for being the epitome of academic excellence.
Named in honor of former National President Corre Anding Stegall, the Corre Anding Stegall Collegiate Leadership Award (commonly referred to as the Corre Award) is Kappa Delta’s most prestigious individual collegiate recognition. This annual award is presented to outstanding Kappa Delta sisters who excel in academics and demonstrate exceptional leadership within their chapters, on campus, and in their local communities.
Collins’ involvement at Southern Miss led to her receiving the award. In addition to being a member of Eagle Connection and Southern Style, she is also a Lucky Day Scholar and Honors College Discovery Scholar. During her first year as a member of the Kappa Delta sorority, she was the assistant to the Vice President of Learning Development as well as assistant to the Director of Scholarship. She also served as spokesperson for Kappa Delta on the judicial board. And during her second year, she became the Vice President of Events and Programing as well as the director of Chapter Rituals.
After receiving the award, she self-reflected on who she is and the impact of those around her.
“This award has helped me realize the work I put in to help those around me,” she said. “I credit this award to the women of Kappa Delta who came before me and gave me advice on how to navigate the college experience while being my true self in the process.”
She believes the Corre Anding Stegall Collegiate Leadership Award is not only a representation of herself, but of all the women in her chapter.
“This award is an example that anything is possible,” she said. “The award acts as a model for the women of Kappa Delta to strive for.”
As an advocate for child abuse prevention, her future plans include going to law school to study family law, in hopes of making sure children in America have a safe and loving environment to call home. Until then, she plans to make the most of her remaining time at Southern Miss by continuing to be a leader and impacting those around her.
