Southern Miss students now have a new option for late-night dining with the grand opening of Southern Wing Company 2.0. Launched on the first day of classes, this new spot keeps its doors open from 7 p.m. to midnight every day, offering alternatives for students when other campus dining locations shut down.
Unlike other dining spots on campus, Southern Wing Company 2.0 focuses on late-night service with a menu designed for quick bites.
“We offer items like buffalo wings, mac and cheese, build-your-own pizza, loaded tots, and egg rolls,” said Eagle Dining marketing manager, Stephanie Patterson. “The idea is to create a space where students can grab a quick, tasty meal without having to leave campus late at night.”
Previously, most campus dining locations close by 8 or 9 p.m., leaving students with limited options. The new venue aims to serve those who are studying late, attending evening classes, or involved in late-night activities, such as intramural sports or club meetings.
Southern Wing Company 2.0 participates in the university’s Meal Exchange program, which allows students with unlimited meal plans “To the Top VIP” or “Black and Gold” to use meal swipes instead of Dining Dollars or bonus bucks.
“Students can choose from a select menu of five or six items and let the cashier know they’re using a Meal Exchange,” Patterson explained. “It’s a convenient way to get a meal without any additional cost.”
Students on the Black and Gold plan receive three meal exchanges per week, while those on the To the Top plan have five exchanges per week, with both resetting every Sunday. Dining Dollars are also accepted for those not on a meal plan.
The decision to open Southern Wing Company 2.0 was driven by student demand for a late-night dining option.
“When Panda Express needed a larger, more central location on campus, we saw an opportunity to reopen this space,” said Patterson. “We consulted with the Student Government Association and other campus partners, and it was clear there was a need for a place where students could grab a meal late at night.”
The atmosphere of Southern Wing Company 2.0 is designed to be inviting and lively.
“It’s bright, fun, and filled with USM spirit,” Patterson added. “We have more plans for future enhancements, but for now, it’s a great spot for students to hang out both inside and in the outdoor courtyard.”
To continuously improve, Southern Wing Company 2.0 will rely on the Voice of the Consumer (VOC) feedback system, which allows students to share their thoughts and suggestions at any time.
“We want to make sure we’re meeting student needs,” Patterson emphasized. “As we grow, we’re open to expanding our menu and adding new items.”
The venue’s goal is to become a gathering place for the Southern Miss community.
“We want this to be a place where students come to relax, connect, and enjoy the Southern Miss atmosphere,” Patterson said.
Southern Wing Company 2.0 is open seven days a week from 7:00 p.m. to midnight, offering a new dining experience for students who need a late-night meal option on campus.
