Kappa Delta sorority on the Southern Miss campus recently held its first Girl Scout party of the fall semester.
Girl Scouts from the Hattiesburg area gathered at the Kappa Delta house on campus to the “crowns and confidence” girl scout party. This event consisted of coloring, nail painting, makeup, crowns and Miss Mississippi Volunteer herself.
Members of Kappa Delta welcome Girl Scouts in the community into their home throughout the year with an important goal of building confidence.
Kate Honea is the Girl Scout Director for Kappa Delta. Honea serves as the main source of contact between the sorority and the Girl Scout troops in the Hattiesburg area. In her position, Honea plans a theme for each girl scout party, this one being “crowns and confidence.”
Girl Scouts were given crowns, colored, got their nails painted and their makeup done by members of Kappa Delta. They were served snacks and drinks and even got to meet and interact with Miss Mississippi Volunteer, Lauryl Joyner.
Another member of Kappa Delta is Anders Estorge, a senior Public Health Administration and Policy major. Estorge spent her time greeting the young guests at the doors as they entered into the event.
“I feel like I’m a part of something so much bigger,” Estorge said. Although she was not a Girl Scout, she sees the impact that members have on them. Estorge enjoys getting to see the Girl Scouts return each year and seeing how much they have grown.
“It warms my heart to be able to help them and see them and just greet them every single time,” Estorge said. “It’s a joy honestly.”
Kappa Delta holds four girl scout parties a year, each with different themes. Through these parties, Kappa Delta aims to instill confidence in young Girl Scouts.
