Kappa Delta Sorority held their annual Shamrock Superbowl on Feb 15 to raise funds for their national philanthropy, Prevent Child Abuse America and their local philanthropy, Kids Hub Child Advocacy Center in Hattiesburg.
Teams entered the football competition and brought dressed Teddy grams that were donated to Kids Hub. Teddy grams are stuffed teddy bears that are dressed up and given to children who go to Kids Hub.
The event lasted from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Teams competed in rounds of flag football, with the fraternity winner being Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the sorority winner being Alpha Chi Omega. There was also a competition held for the Teddy grams, with the winner being Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Through this event, the entry fees will be given to PCAA and Kids Hub. Hannah Grace Reed, the Vice President of Events and Programming for Kappa Delta, was in charge of planning the program.
“My favorite part of the Shamrock Superbowl is that I get to help our important philanthropies with my best friends,” Reed said.
Members of Kappa Delta serve as coaches for each team, cheering them on with signs as they play.
“It is so fun to cheer on teams together while knowing I am helping charities,” Reed said. “This event is also a great way to show others a cause so important to Kappa Delta.”
Kids Hub Child Advocacy Center is a non-profit organization located in Hattiesburg that has a goal of helping children feel “Heard, Supported, Protected and Comforted.”
Mary Ivy Bivings, the Director of Community Service and Philanthropy, serves as the liaison between Kids Hub and Kappa Delta.
“They are able to give necessities out to those in need, conduct forensic interviews, provide counseling, and also provide each child that comes in with their very own teddy bear to comfort them through whatever they may be facing,” Bivings said.
In her position, Bivings stays in contact with Kids Hub and informs Kappa Delta about service opportunities and the needs of Kids Hub.
“I also am responsible for providing our chapter with service opportunities in order to keep everyone involved, engaged and informed within our community,” Bivings said.
Not only does this event raise funds but also promotes Kids Hub and PCAA and the work that they do.
“It benefits both of these organizations by promoting all of the work that Kids Hub is able to do for victims of child abuse and raising awareness,” Bivings said.
This event brings Greek life together to raise money and promote awareness.
“My favorite part about Shamrock Superbowl is seeing the chapters on campus come together, have fun, supporting each other, and Kids Hub,” Bivings said. “The whole event is so fun, and so rewarding.”
