Eaglepalooza, a free live music event hosted by The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) and the City of Hattiesburg, will return for the first time since 2019. The event is scheduled for Friday, March 28, at 7 p.m., marking the kickoff of the annual HUBFEST weekend.
The return of Eaglepalooza was officially announced at a press conference on February 19, where university and city officials expressed their enthusiasm for reviving the long-standing tradition.
“Eaglepalooza has always been a cornerstone of the Southern Miss spirit,” said Southern Miss President Dr. Joe Paul. “Bringing this event back underscores our commitment to fostering a vibrant student life experience both on campus and throughout our community.”
Eaglepalooza has been a popular event in the Hattiesburg area, providing a space for students and residents to gather through entertainment and culture.
“I think this would be a wonderful idea because it’ll give our community more festivities to indulge in as a family,” said Isabella Clark, a speech pathology major. “I feel like this should also be an event that occurs at least three times out of the year.”
Some students, having not experienced Eaglepalooza during their time at USM, are looking forward to the event’s return. Mayor Toby Barker highlighted how the event, along with HUBFEST, will strengthen the student experience.
“Strengthening the student experience showcases the excitement of both Southern Miss and Hattiesburg,” said Barker. “I commend the Student Government Association, the Division of Student Affairs, and Dr. Joe Paul for doing what it takes to bring Eaglepalooza back to downtown Hattiesburg. When coupled with HUBFEST, Hattiesburgers can look forward to a fun weekend that highlights all our city has to offer.”
USM student Bert Hughes echoed this enthusiasm.
“I didn’t know what this event was at first, but now that I do, I feel like Eaglepalooza will be a great opportunity for everyone to relax and see different people,” Hughes said. “It’s not every day that a community like ours is in the same place.”
Briston Maroney, a singer, songwriter, and musician, will headline the evening. His sophomore album, Ultrapure, released in 2023, was produced by two-time GRAMMY winner Daniel Tashian.
Eaglepalooza is supported by various community sponsors, including Jones Company, the City of Hattiesburg, Southern Miss Student Government Association, Southern Beverage, Visit Hattiesburg, Southern Miss Fraternity and Sorority Life, Housing and Residence Life, Campus Recreation, Signs First, Live at Five, and Coca-Cola.
“Everyone should come to Eaglepalooza,” said USM student Diya Rodgers. “DJ Kujo, the best DJ in Hattiesburg, is going to be there, and you’re going to have a great time and meet good people. I heard there’s supposed to be food there, too.”
