The “first bingeable theater experience” is underway, according to director Sam Mendes’ production company. Slated to be released in 2028, Mendes officially announced the stars for the four upcoming Beatles biopics.
Paul Mescal will be starring as Paul McCartney, which is fitting in appearance, first name, and initials. “Saltburn” star Barry Keoghan will star as Ringo Starr, “Babygirl” star Harris Dickinson will star as John Lennon, and "Stranger Things” star Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.
Fans anticipating the film have seemingly expressed satisfaction with the castings for the roles. The majority look quite similar to their Beatles counterparts, have similar dialects and origins, and both are pretty well respected and acclaimed actors who fans believe will do these roles justice.
While many have expressed satisfaction with seeing actors that they already know and love on the big screen portraying these iconic figures, the Beatles even to this day have a very strong fanbase who will undoubtedly criticize any difference to reality written in these films. One of the film project's biggest critics is John Lennon’s half-sister, maintaining her stance on this project that it will be inauthentic due to the lack of Liverpool origins seen throughout the cast. She believes the fact that two of the members were from there and that Liverpool was important to the identity of this band. She argues that it is crucial enough that more emphasis should have been played on sourcing talent from there.
According to Sony Pictures, this is the very first time the living members of the band or their estates each granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film. Instead of opting for a Beatles film, director Sam Mendes ambitiously opted to create an entire film for each member, giving the ability to tell the story from their point of view. While it is unclear at the moment whether they will be co-starring in each other's films, or at least making cameos, it is very likely and fans are looking forward to seeing this engagement between these actors performing as members of the iconic and legendary band.
