Around 7:50 a.m. on May 14, University Police were notified of a suspicious individual on Kay James Drive near the DuBard School for Language Disorders. Officers quickly responded, securing nearby buildings and conducting a detailed search of the area.
During the investigation, officers discovered multiple burglarized vehicles and verified reports of concerning behavior.
University Police have confirmed there is no immediate threat to campus and continue to investigate the incident.
Members of the campus community are urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to UPD at 601-266-4986.
“The swift and responsible actions of our University community are to be recognized and commended,” said Assistant Vice President of Public Safety and Chief of Police Rusty Keyes. “Keeping the Southern Miss family safe is our highest priority, and today’s actions reflect our commitment to rapid and attentive response.”
