Baseburg is back. For the fourth time in program history, Southern Miss will host an NCAA Division I Baseball Regional Tournament at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
The 2025 Hattiesburg Regional will be held from Friday, May 30, through Monday, June 2, and features Southern Miss, Alabama, Miami (Fla.), and Columbia. Southern Miss received the No. 16 national seed and will serve as the No. 1 seed in the regional.
The Golden Eagles (44-14, 24-6 Sun Belt) will face No. 4 seed Columbia (29-17, 16-5 Ivy League) on Friday at 6 p.m. The first game of the day will feature No. 2 seed Alabama (41-16, 16-14 SEC) against No. 3 seed Miami (31-24, 15-14 ACC) at 2 p.m.
Two games will be played each day through Sunday, with a potential winner-take-all Game 7 scheduled for Monday, if necessary.
Southern Miss has recorded 40 or more wins in each of the past six seasons, joining Dallas Baptist as the only two Division I programs to achieve the feat during that span.
Visit Hattiesburg Executive Director Marlo Dorsey said hosting the regional could bring a substantial economic benefit to the city.
“We’re looking at more than $4 million in direct spending here in the Hattiesburg economy,” Dorsey said. “That’s a conservative estimate. When you crunch all the numbers, it’s about $6 to $7 million dollars in economic impact.”
Southern Miss Head Coach Christian Ostrander said the tournament presents a valuable opportunity for both the university and the community.
“Hosting a regional provides a great opportunity for our entire community,” Ostrander said. “It helps our economy tremendously and also rewards our fans with postseason baseball at the Pete!”
Ostrander also acknowledged the logistical efforts made by the university’s staff and administration to host the event.
“I would say the toughest part about hosting is simply the planning and organization that it requires,” Ostrander said. “Our administration has done an incredible job dotting I’s and crossing T’s for the upcoming event.”
Southern Miss previously hosted NCAA regionals in 2003, 2017 and 2022.
