USM Unveils Upgrades at M.M. Roberts Stadium
By Alvia Walker
During this past Saturday’s game against Mississippi State University, USM rolled out major upgrades at M.M. Roberts Stadium, including renovated concession stands, improved restrooms and fan recovery zones with hydration stations and misting fans.
The stadium is now cashless, features expanded bookstore access and offers live entertainment from DJ Kujho in the east-side student section. Designated unloading zones are available on East Memorial Drive and near the Thad Cochran Center parking lot.
“These upgrades reflect our commitment to providing Golden Eagle fans with the very best game day experience,” said Jeremy McClain, USM Director of Athletics. “From the moment you arrive on campus to the time you leave The Rock, we want every fan to feel the energy, excitement, and pride that make Southern Miss special. These improvements will not only make game day more enjoyable but will also help create an atmosphere that gives our team a true home-field advantage.”
In partnership with Aramark, the university renovated lower-level concessions, adding a full overhaul of concession stands with fresh paint and updated signage, clearly marked entry and exit points for smoother traffic flow, two new west-side satellite stands offering drinks and snacks, grab-and-go service at all west-side stands and two east-side stands, and the Touchdown Market on the southeast concourse behind Section K, offering evolving food and beverage options.
Concessions now feature new cooking equipment, warmers, drink coolers, updated beverage machines, and double the number of points of sale to reduce wait times.
Recovery Zones on the upper and lower concourses provide WaterMonster hydration stations and misting fans, while DJ Kujho brings live music to energize fans.
Barnes & Noble will open an additional location on the east concourse behind Section K during the home opener against Mississippi State on Aug. 30, giving fans more access to officially licensed gear. Bathroom upgrades are complete across all upper-level restrooms, including the press box.
Eagle Walk now begins two and a half hours before kickoff to welcome fans as the team approaches the stadium.
After the first home game, fans had mixed reactions.
“I really enjoyed DJ Kujho’s music,” said Allen Trotter. “He really brought that place to life! I can’t wait to see what he does next week when Jackson State comes to the Rock.”
“I like everything they are doing with the stadium,” said Sammy Jackson. “The restroom experience was much, much better for sure. But the music was a bit loud at times.”
