Frank Rimmer III is more than just a name on campus. He’s a quick-thinking, beloved jokester whose humor makes him a favorite among students and faculty.
Rimmer, or “21,” as he likes to be called, was born in Grenada, Mississippi. It was there he learned the importance of laughter.
“My grandpa was very big on keeping a smile on your face. He never wanted to see anyone upset and did everything in his crippled power to make sure we stayed happy,” said 21.
Rimmer is one of three children in his household. His siblings, Davonte and Kayla Rimmer, have lived with him for 19 years of their lives, and those years were nothing short of a good time.
“Frank has always been a character,” said Kayla Rimmer. “One day he almost lit the tree in the backyard on fire. Why? We still don’t know.”
Rimmer has been in college for four years. Going into his sophomore year, one of his biggest goals was being more involved on campus. When he first started his college career, all he knew was that he wanted to graduate. Now he is a member of the executive board of the NAACP, a general member of the Southern Miss Activities Council, a marketing intern for Southern Miss Athletics and a resident assistant for Hillcrest Hall.
“I really don’t know how to describe him,” said Reagan Veon, a graduate assistant for marketing. “He’s literally just himself, I guess. He always finds some way to make us laugh, whether that’s on purpose or because he did something odd.”
Being a member of three organizations and serving as a resident assistant is no easy task. A way 21 lets off steam is by streaming on Twitch while he plays his PlayStation.
He has only been streaming for about a month and has a total of 45 followers. Each stream ranges from an hour to more than three hours. On these streams, 21 plays multiple games and interacts with his chat.
On his Twitch account there are multiple clips and videos of his highlights from the games. Some are bloopers, and others showcase strong gameplay. A big part of his streamer personality is his antics while playing. He is known in the gaming community as someone who rages. “Ragers” are those who get so angry while playing that they yell, throw things and even break objects.
Rimmer has broken two controllers and received multiple noise complaints. He, however, feels that he’s not loud at all.
From someone who just wanted to get college over with, to a man who now wants to enjoy college and put himself out there, Rimmer is a prime example of how a person can break out of their shell.
