Downtown Hattiesburg’s Lucky Rabbit has become a favorite weekend spot for University of Southern Mississippi students. Known for its changing seasonal exhibits and unique collections, the store offers vintage charm and interactive displays.
The shop features a variety of themed exhibits throughout the year. Last year, students crowded the store to see a Beetlejuice-inspired exhibit filled with costumes, props and décor from the 1980s Halloween classic. Another hit included a National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation theme, which drew Christmas fanatics during the holiday season.
“It’s such a fun way to spend a Saturday,” said Susanna Brown, a USM senior. “I went with friends last year for the Beetlejuice exhibit and ended up going the next weekend to show my family. I had no idea this was here.”
The Lucky Rabbit has also become a local tourist spot. Students aren’t the only ones visiting—many people from across the state stop by to check out the latest displays and browse its collection of vintage must-haves. Its fun, festive atmosphere makes it a must-see for anyone exploring Hattiesburg.
Beyond retail, the Lucky Rabbit contributes to Hattiesburg’s downtown culture. Local restaurants, coffee shops and other retailers nearby see increased traffic on weekends as students and tourists make a day of exploring the area.
Many locals and students have made visiting the Lucky Rabbit a weekend tradition. Some come strictly for the seasonal exhibits, while others explore the two warehouses filled with vintage furniture and décor.
Cade Stauter, a Hattiesburg native, said he and his friends visit almost every month.
“It’s one of the few places in town that always surprises you,” Stauter said. “One minute you’re looking at a Beetlejuice set, another you’re shopping for furniture from who knows how long ago.”
Another unique feature of the Lucky Rabbit is its support for local businesses. Artists and small business owners can set up booths inside the store to sell handmade items, from jewelry and artwork to custom décor.
Whether stopping by for vintage finds, themed exhibits or just a fun outing with friends and family, the Lucky Rabbit has become a large part of Hattiesburg’s weekend scene. For Southern Miss students, it is more than a store—it’s a place to explore, take photos and enjoy time outside campus.
