Southern Miss volleyball earned a dominant 3-0 sweep over Louisiana-Monroe on Friday night at the Southern Miss Wellness Center.
The Golden Eagles took control early, using an 8-1 surge in the opening frame that featured a service ace from Sunni Sheppard and kills from Lillie Johnson and Sadie McAda. Brynn Botkin sealed the set with one of her team-high 13 kills.
ULM responded in the second set behind the energy of Chavon Weaver, but Southern Miss held its ground. After cleaning up mistakes and adjusting defensively, the Golden Eagles edged out the Warhawks 25-23 to take a 2-0 lead.
Southern Miss closed the match with a decisive 25-15 victory in the third set. Johnson, a middle blocker, sparked the team with two blocks, 67 attacks and three sets played.
With the win, the Golden Eagles improved to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in Sun Belt Conference play.
Southern Miss will travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas, to face Arkansas State on Oct. 3-4.
