Another week at The Bell, another week of Southern Miss soccer. In a senior day matchup versus Arkansas State, the Lady Golden Eagles put on an attacking clinic, beating out the Lady Red Wolves in every category excluding goals.
The Lady Red Wolves tallied two early goals before the thirty-minute mark. Southern Miss responded with a Rhyleigh Marks freekick goal. Later, the Lady Red Wolves would go back up by two after finding the back of the net yet again before halftime. Although the Lady Golden Eagles were putting the pressure on, the Lady Red Wolves continued to push and would score two more times to win 5-1.
However, the true gem of the effort from Southern Miss this week was the defensive performance. One may look at the box score and wonder how, but Arkansas State had to work for every goal they scored. The tandem of Lady Golden Eagle goaltenders, Maddie Ellis and Lena Blake were put to work. The Lady Golden Eagle backline was also responsible for drawing many offside penalties on the Lady Red Wolves that stood in the way of Arkansas State gaining offensive momentum.
The Lady Golden Eagles will travel to San Marcos to face Texas State and be back in gear on Saturday October 18th with a kickoff time of 7pm CT.
