Eagle Dining has announced that students must now present their student ID cards to enter the Fresh Food Company, effectively removing access via the GET app. The announcement was made on the dining service’s social media on Oct. 8. Signs explaining the ID card requirement also have been posted at the entrance of the Fresh Food Company.
The change comes after reports of students violating meal plan policies.
“We had to remove the GET app from the Fresh Food Company because students were sharing their accounts and allowing others to use their meal plans, which is against our policy,” said Marcus White, general manager of Eagle Dining.
White emphasized that the card requirement is not a new rule.
“I just wanted to clarify that this is not a new policy — this has always been a rule for Eagle Dining,” White said. “The GET app was added as a backup option in case students lost their card and still needed access to the Fresh Food Company.”
Before the change, the GET app offered an easy way to enter. Students could scan the barcode on their phone at the entrance. The app contains the information about their meal plan, bonus bucks and other dining privileges.
Students expressed mixed reactions. Some felt the issue could have been addressed differently.
“It’s unfortunate that they took the GET app away. Say, for example, I lost or forgot my card, now I can’t eat. I think a better way to solve this would be only allowing one device to have the GET app signed in,” junior Saleep Shrestha said.
Students can still use the GET app at other dining locations, such as the Perch, to access bonus bucks or other prepaid funds. The change only affects entry to the Fresh Food Company, where the ID card is now required.
