The Golden Eagles keep on winning as they followed up a sweep over the weekend with a 6-3 victory over the eighth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide at Sewell-Thomas Staduim.
With the victory USM swept the season series against Alabama. Southern Miss is now 25-17 on the season while Alabama dropped to 28-13. Southern Miss leads the series 72-28 all-time against the Tide.

USM pitcher Cameron Giannini looked loose all game, allowing just one run and four walks while striking out five Bama batters in 5 2/3 innings. With the win Giannini improved his record to 3-2. A.J. Glasshof and Ryan Milton combined for 2 1/3 scoreless frames out of the Southern Miss bullpen.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when USM got on the board. First baseman Bradley Roney led off the inning and reached first base after being hit by a pitch. Two groundouts moved Roney to third before Mason Robbins drove him in with a single just out of the reach of Kyle Overstreet at second to put the Golden Eagles up, 1-0.
After blanking the Tide for two more frames, Southern Miss racked up three more runs in the top of the sixth. Matt Durst and Roney set up men on second and third on a single and double, respectively, before Austin Roussel walked to load the bases.

The Golden Eagles got an RBI single from Robbins and an RBI groundout from Nick Dawson, while adding another run on a wild pitch for a 4-0 lead. Alabama finally got a run in the sixth when Overstreet drove in Moore on a sacrifice fly.

Robbins’ 4-for-4 night was highlighted by a two-run home run in the eighth inning to put the Golden Eagles up 6-1 late. Robbins was dominant at the plate and was the biggest contributor to the Golden Eagles victory. Southern Miss also got an RBI from Nick Dawson and a 2-for-4 night from Dylan Burdeaux, who also scored two runs.

In the ninth, the Tide started a rally behind a Mikey White RBI single and a Ben Moore RBI triple, but the Eagles bullpen was able to put out the fire to hold on for a 6-3 win.
The Golden Eagles will play in front of their home crowd at Pete Taylor Park when they face Rice, who is in first place in Conference USA, in a three-game series. This is a big weekend for the Golden Eagles as they are currently in second place in C-USA by a game and a half.

The game times are at 6 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
