Student organizations and media groups in the School of Mass Communication and Journalism are participating in MCJ Rush Day, an event designed to help students find where they fit within the school depending on their major and interests.
Those interested in learning more about the following groups may attend the event on the third floor of College Hall, Sept. 11 from noon to 2 p.m. Students will also have the chance to learn more about MCJ internships and study abroad opportunities.
The Mass Communication Graduate Student Alliance (Grad Student Alliance) – A graduate student group focused on maintaining connections with other graduate students within the School of Mass Communication and Journalism.
South City Records (SCR) – A student-run record label that allows students hands-on experience in the entertainment industry as they find, sign and record local artists.
The Public Relations Society of America (PRSSA) – PRSSA is a national student organization that links students to other public relations students and professionals. According to the PRSSA website, the organization offers leadership, scholarship and networking opportunities.
The Crew – A student-led group that creates short films, music videos, commercials and documentaries. The group takes on projects from preproduction to the final product.
Collective Hip Hop An Original Society (CHAOS) – A group of dancers, singers, rappers and poets that meets to collaborate on projects. According to the student activities website, they “come together to express themselves through their art.”
Her Campus Southern Miss (HCSM) – A female-oriented online publication focused on the events and student life on the Southern Miss campus.
Southern Miss Association of Black Journalists (SMABJ) – A student-led group for journalists looking for professional development opportunities through networking and community service.
Stage Monkeys of Hattiesburg (Stage Monkeys) – An improv troupe that gives interactive, off-the-cuff performances each Thursday night.
American Advertising Federation (AAF) – A national network comprised of advertisers, agencies and 210 college chapters. This
group offers networking opportunities for upcoming advertising students.
The Student Printz – A student news organization that produces a bi-weekly newspaper along with a website complete with multimedia content. The Student Printz employs editors, writers, photographers, page designers and multimedia journalists to produce content.
