SMAC to Hold Golden Eagle Idol Auditions

Southern Miss Activities Council (SMAC) will host its Golden Eagle Idol auditions on Feb. 2 and 3 in the Student Activities Hub. The auditions will start at 5:30 p.m. and last until 8 p.m. on both days. The main event, Golden Eagle Idol, is meant to showcase students’ vocal talents, and it will be held April 1 at 7 p.m. in Bennett Auditorium.

In past years, SMAC coordinated a similar event called Southern Miss Got Talent, in which students performed various talents.

This year, we decided to narrow it down, because we thought it would be a better show and easier on us to facilitate and manage,” said  Elyssa Klipsch, a senior music education major and event coordinator for SMAC.

In 2014, the talent show had nearly 30 people audition and 20 participate in the show. This year, due to extensive publicizing of the event, SMAC expects auditions and the show to have a great turnout as 12 people will make it through to the final show.

I’ve been able to be a part of coordinating this event for the past two years and with each year, it gets better,” Klipsch said. “I’m excited to see the talent the student body has and am fortunate to be a part of the organizing committee.

After two weeks of advertising, the auditions and the final show can be found publicized on flyers and push cards around campus as well as on social media such as the SMAC Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter. The main winner of Golden Eagle Idol will receive a cash prize. Auditions will begin as people walk in, sign in and be called to perform based on the sign in list.

For students interested in being in the Golden Eagle Idol show, attend the auditions either Monday or Tuesday to sing in front of the judges and have a chance to be selected to sing in the show.

Anyone can audition, as long as singing will be their choice of talent. After singers are selected for the show, SMAC will advertise those singers and the main event.
