SMAC will host its first Spring It On Week, starting Feb. 23 and ending Feb. 27. Students will be able to participate in an array of things, ranging from exhibitions to movie showings.
Hub Unplugged will kick off the week of events.
“This event will be hosted in the Student Activities Hub (and) will be very similar to a coffee house atmosphere,” SMAC president Gavin Snyder said. “Coffee and pastries will be served and students can come chill and listen to their peers perform acoustic music.”
Then, on Tuesday, the Crescent Circus will perform at Cirque Du SMAC. The circus will begin at 7 p.m. in the Trent Lott Center. Wednesday the events will start at 10 a.m. on Centennial Lawn as SMAC brings a special guest to campus in celebration of Hump Day.
“The Clothesline Project Exhibition will also be taking place to raise awareness of sexual violence on Weathersby Lawn,” Snyder said.
Later that night, Aaron Boe will give his presentation on “Shattering Violence” at 7 p.m. in the Thad Cochran Center. “Sexual Violence is a growing problem on college campuses,” Snyder said. “With the help of Southern Miss SGA and Alpha Chi Omega sorority, we chose to highlight this issue specifically on our campus.”
On Thursday, students will be able to participate in a DUI Simulator from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Centennial Lawn. Then, shortly following, Campus Crawl will take place at 5 p.m. in the Student Activities Hub. Lastly, on Friday, SMAC will present the Disney hit film “Frozen,” starting at 7 p.m. at Centennial Lawn.
“Hot Chocolate and other snacks will be available,” Snyder said. “We encourage attendees to bring chairs and blankets for the show. Ana and Elsa may be making an appearance too.”
