Mississippi State Treasurer Lynn Fitch discusses the progress of USM’s Asbury Hall with Katherine Nugent, dean of the College of Nursing.
According to a USM press release, Fitch explained the bond funding process that plays a pivotal role in building the new nursing building.
“The role of health care in our state and region cannot be understated,” Fitch said.
She also said facilities such as Asbury Hall will enable USM to educate and train the next generation of nurses who will provide the type of quality health care that will benefit patients in our state and beyond.
About $31 million is put into the new building and will increase the square footage for the College of Nursing by 135 percent. This will now allow for an enrollment increase from 550 nursing students to over 800.
Asbury Hall is scheduled to be completed by May 2016.
