In their last home game of the season, Southern Miss fell to conference leader North Texas 2-0. The Golden Eagles are now 4-11-3 and 2-6 in Conference USA.

North Texas got on the board quickly when Amber Haggerty scored in the ninth minute.

For the remainder of the first half, the Golden Eagles fought to tie the game, getting two solid opportunities on goal from atie Richmond and Kierstin Bradley. But neither of their shots materialized points. North Texas struck again 15  minutes into the second half.

Karla Pineda’s shot from 20 yards out was saved by Brittany Taylor, but the Mean Green’s Rachel Holden was there to head in the rebound, giving the Mean Green a 2-0 lead.

Southern Miss had an opportunity to get on the board in the 67th minute, when Stephanie Garcia’s shot was blocked and then picked up by Mary Kate Smith, whose shot was saved by North Texas keeper Jackie Kerestine.

Another chance presented itself for the Golden Eagles which came from Bradley, whose header off of a cross went wide of the goal in the 73rd minute. Bri Schubeck and Somer Jones also had shots on goal in the second half for the Golden Eagles.

The Mean Green ended the match with 13 shots to the Golden Eagles’ seven shots. Taylor continues making saves, solidifying her spot in the record books. She tacked on three more saves to her school record for career saves.
