Fourteen years later, Disney is coming out with the “Life Size” sequel. Yes, “Life Size.” The movie with Tyra Banks as a “life size” doll.
For a woman who grew up in the 90s and early 2000s, “Life Size” was a favorite and now a classic for me. I literally loved this movie, along with “The Parent Trap,” “Double Teamed” and “Brink.”
But, Disney Channel has strayed away from their original movies and moved in a different direction with movies like “Hannah Montana” and “Teen Beach Movie.” So it is interesting that they have decided to bring back a classic movie after 14 years.
According E-Online interview with Tyra Banks, she has confirmed that the movie rumor is true.
“I’m under contract with Disney and I can’t talk about it all, except it’s coming,” Banks said. “But it will be very different, very different.” She said the movie will have a very modern take and will be even better than the original.
“I have a meeting (soon) to go over the script,” Banks said. “I don’t think it’ll be out until probably 2015, but I’m guessing it could be late 2014 or 2015.”
Senior special education and elementary education double major Emily Booth said she wishes the sequel would have come out sooner.
“I absolutely love Tyra and I have since I first saw her in 2000,” Booth said. “I was in the second grade and secretly wished all my dolls would come to life. One time, my mom caught me chanting and asked me what I was doing.”
Booth said she has high hopes for the sequel.
“I hope that they do the first movie justice and it’s not a complete flop,” Booth said. “I really don’t know what to expect. It’s going to be interesting to see if Lindsay Lohan will come back, too.”
Freshman speech pathology major Magan Hebert said she is excited for the sequel.
“I hope this movie will give younger children a taste of what Disney Channel was like when I was growing up,” Hebert said. “I’m very excited for the movie to come out and I will definitely be watching it.”
Senior public relations major Danielle Rooney said she is nervous about the sequel.
“I am just scared they’re going to ruin a classic by trying to remake it so many years later,” Rooney said. “I will definitely watch it, but I’m still apprehensive about it because I don’t think they can top the original.”
Senior hospitality major Hannah Rusche said she is not too excited for it.
“I’m just thinking it’s going to be too different, especially because Lindsay Lohan probably won’t be in it and Tyra Banks is (going to) be different,” Rusche said.
She said it would’ve been better to make it sooner.
“I would’ve liked for the sequel to come out a year or two after the original,” Rusche said. “It just would’ve made more sense and I would’ve been more excited to see it back then.”
I personally am excited about the sequel. I think it’d be awesome for younger generations to know what old school Disney was like and everyone loves a sequel to a classic.
However, I’m a little scared to know what they are going to do with it 14 years later, especially with Lindsay Lohan going off the deep end. It just wouldn’t be the same without her, but quite frankly, I don’t know how I feel about her being in it either.
We will just have to wait until the end of the year or early 2015, to see it and then make the call on how we feel.
But for now, let’s just get excited and hope for the best.
