With the final home game of the soccer season being played tomorrow, Friday October 24th, we will see a couple of Lady Golden Eagles don the uniform one last time at the Bell. Those players being Lena Blake, Maddie Ellis, Anatu Sadat, Taylor Stewart, and Shaelynn Quick. This article will serve as a spotlight for those ladies and everything they’ve done forthe Southern Miss soccer program in their time.
Lena Blake (GK)
From San Antonio, Texas, Blake brought a steady presence in the net, clear communication on the field, and a high standard in all areas to be maintained by everyone around her. In moments of high pressure, she always stood tall, and her teammates leaned on her. Coaches recall her professionalism and consistency on a day-to-day basis. As a Lady Golden Eagle, Blake appeared in eight matches, totaling a stat line of 15 saves. This season, Blake has played seven games, tallying 13 saves, saving 65% of what is kicked at her!
Maddie Ellis (GK)
Maddie Ellis is a tough competitor from Magnolia, Texas. Ellis has been a great example for her younger teammates, taking on whatever challenge is thrown at her while displaying poise. In her time at Southern Miss, Ellis appeared in 22 matches with 62 saves, with a shutout! This season, Ellis appeared in 12 matches, one of which being a shutout, with 51 saves!
Anatu Sadat (M)
Sadat, who is from Accra, Ghana, has been a breath of fresh air for the Lady Golden Eagles in her time. Known for her offensive capability and energy, she had no problem adding a spark to games. Sadat appeared in 18 matches with 11 starts, playing a total of 685 minutes featuring 7 shots!
Taylor Stewart (D/F)
Taylor Stewart, a hometown player, was known to provide a consistent, reliable presence in the locker room and on the field. Stewart had no problem leading by example, as she spread her grit and composure throughout the program. In her Southern Miss career Stewart appeared in 45 matches, starting 18 times, 1,708 minutes, two goals, two assists, 30 shots, and 15 shots on goal!
Shaelynn Quick (M)
Shaleynn, who is from Florence, Mississippi, was everything you wanted in a leader for the Lady Golden Eagles. She was a hardworker and paid attention to detail, and it showed in the locker room and on the field. With the Lady Golden Eagles, Quick appeared in 41 matches, starting 33 of them, playing nearly 3,000 minutes, with three goals, one of which being a game winner, 27 shots, and 15 shots on goal!
