The Lady Eagles continued their dominating hot streak with a pair of 7-0 wins over William Carey and Alcorn State Saturday at home.
Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen wasted no time defeating Audey Leitz and Oceane Sanchez of WCU, 6-1, in the first doubles match of the day.
Claudia Castella and Lisa Schneider teamed up for a 6-2 victory over Sara Valero Marin and Glorida Kaufmann to keep the momentum with Southern Miss.
Karina Gurgenyan and Elena Roca concluded doubles play routing Hannah Bradford and Natalie Saunders of WCU 6-0.
In singles action, all six Lady Eagles were victorious.
Roca and Kathrin Waidner each won their matches 6-0 and 6-0 against WCU’s Bradford and Saunders respectively. Kitchen, Castella, and Schneider defeated each of their opponents Kaufmann, Sanchez and Marin, easily.
Drescher battled it out three sets with WCU’s Leitz. Drescher fell 4-6 in the first set, but fought back and won with scores of 6-2 and 10-3, finishing USM’s singles sweep.
Against Alcorn State, Drescher and Kitchen’s duo dominated Alcorn’s Ivana Boberic and Siobhan Ryan-Bovey 6-1.
Gurgenyan and Roca also teamed up for a 6-1 victory, knocking off Aida Kelic and Kate Potapova.
Castella and Schneider were heading for a win, 5-3, as time ran out.
Keeping the momentum with Southern Miss, Roca, Kitchen and Gurgenyan each won their singles matches in dominating fashion against Alcorn State.
Drescher and Castella defeated their opponents Ryan-Bovey and Boberic by identical scores of 6-3 and 6-3.
Finishing singles play for the day, Schneider defeated Kelic in three sets (7-5,1-6,10-4).
The Lady Eagles continue to dominate in every aspect, singles and doubles, against all opponents.
USM improves to 4-0 overall, remaining undefeated on their home court.
Their next challenge will be Feb. 7 against McNeese State at 1 p.m. in Hattiesburg.
