Student’s memorial service to be held in Biloxi

According to Southern Miss Now, Sierra Jones, a University of Southern Mississippi student from Ocean Springs died March 28. She was 19.

A funeral service for Jones will be held at noon Monday, April 4 at Gruich Community Center, located at 591 Howard Ave. in Biloxi, Mississippi, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Richmond-August Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

“It’s always a moment of sadness when we lose a member of the university community,” said Dean of Students Eddie Holloway to Southern Miss Now. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.”

Mississippi News Now reported Jones was involved in a single- person accident on March 28. Jones was traveling north on Highway 49 when she lost control. She was not wearing a seatbelt, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol Master Sgt. Brent Barfield.

Jones’ final public Facebook post came a day before her passing and read, “I know for a fact God is real.” It has been shared more than 1,500 times. Dozens flocked to her Facebook wall after the incident, writing their condolences and remembering how Jones impacted them.

“Keep singing you beautiful angel. Sing til everyone hears your voice. Gonna miss you. Praying for your family, love you Roshaun, I’m hear[sic] if you ever need to talk bud,” Facebook user Eric Dismuke wrote.
