Women’s tennis shuts out UAB, 4-0

The Lady Eagles tennis team shut out C-USA foe UAB on Saturday, giving them four straight shutouts on the season and their first against a conference opponent. 

The Southern Miss trio of Claudia Castella, Elena Roca and Tjasa Jerse put the Lady Eagles ahead early in singles play.

Castella earned a default win in her match, while Roca won her match by scores of 6-0 in both. Jerse emerged victorious for the fifteenth overall time this season by winning 6-1 and 6-2 in her singles set.

In doubles play, the Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen combo extended their three-game winning streak and helped the Lady Eagles emerge victorious by notching a default victory in one set and winning the second set by a score of 7-5.

After the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 12-7 overall, including a 7-1 record at home. They have two contests left this season.
