Student dies in car accident

A University of Southern Mississippi student and Mobile native died Saturday morning in a car accident in Mobile, Alabama.

Madison “Lexi” Long, 19, was a sophomore at USM as well as a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

According to AL.com, Turnerville Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Michael Smith said it appeared Long ran off the road and hit a pole while she drove westbound a short distance before Celeste Road, which is an area a few miles
from Citronelle.

They responded to the wreck around 10 a.m. and found a Volkswagen Jetta turned over on its side with a wooden light pole laying on top of the vehicle. Smith said Long died on the scene.

AL.com said Alabama State Troopers are investigating the accident.

Members of Alpha Delta Pi will wear black ribbons this week in remembrance of Long.

Services for Long will take place Wednesday at Turnerville Baptist Church. Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. and the service will begin at 2 p.m.
