USM Quidditch team competes in tournament

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Quidditch tournament season looms ahead with several upcoming tournaments out of state and a local tournament that will take place in mid-November.

The Crawfish Cup IV, held on Oct. 28, was the team’s first tournament of the season and was hosted by Tulane Quidditch in Louisiana. USM competed in pool-play style games against teams such as LSU Quidditch and the current regional champion, Florida’s Finest.

The fifth annual Renegade Cup on Nov. 10-11 will serve as the team’s second destination and will be hosted by Florida State Quidditch in Florida where teams such as University of Miami, Florida’s Finest and Terminus Quidditch will also be competing.

USM’s own quidditch tournament, Hub City Cup IV will be held on Nov. 18 on the Intramural Fields. Not only will USM be competing, but Tulane Quidditch, Loyola Quidditch and several other teams will compete.

The season will be wrapping up with the South Regional Championship in Alabama on Feb. 10-11 where USM will be taking on teams from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee in a two-day event that decides which southern teams qualify for US Quidditch Cup 11 held later next year.
