Melvin Smith Jr., known as “Tank,” is ranked among the top five USA Boxing champions in Mississippi and is gaining recognition in amateur boxing.
Smith recently defeated another opponent at The Center at Forrest County.
During a press conference before the event, Smith expressed confidence ahead of the match.
“I am a three-time round champion and I’m ready to take you down,” Smith said.
The match took place ahead of a Cinco de Mayo boxing event. Smith won all three rounds, improving his record to 19-13.
In the opening round, both fighters matched each other’s intensity and continued to battle through the end of the round. Smith maintained his momentum in the second and third rounds, controlling the pace of the fight and capitalizing on openings against his opponent.
Smith secured a 3-0 victory, advancing his standing as a regional competitor.
He has competed in national tournaments, including The Carolina Gloves Tournament and The Golden Gloves Tournament. Smith said he plans to pursue a professional boxing career in the future.
Smith is scheduled to compete again June 13, 2026, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, at Edwin’s Elementary School.
