Student arrested for aggravated assault

The University of Southern Mississippi police arrested fraternity member Elijah Dollar after responding to a fight call at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. Dollar, a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, was charged with aggravated assault and had his first court appearance Monday morning in Forrest County Justice Court.

“They had a verbal altercation earlier in the evening, which escalated into a fight in the early morning hours,” said Detective Captain Rusty Keyes. The stabbing took place on the front porch of the SAE house, and Keyes said the weapon of use is under investigation, noting that it was not a knife.

The victim Kevin Inmon II, who was another member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, has been released from Forrest General Hospital after being stabbed by Dollar.

Dean of Students Eddie Holloway said Dollar’s fraternity membership has been revoked, and he is prohibited from entering campus without approval from the dean of students and university police. It is still not confirmed if SAE will be put on probation for the incident. Holloway said SAE has not been in trouble with the Dean of Students in recent years.

Keyes said if it turns out that alcohol was involved, the investigation will be turned over to the Dean of Students Office. Once UPD’s investigation is completed, it will then be turned over to the Forrest County District Attorney’s office.
