Students took time to focus on self-care last week during the annual Fall Wellness Festival that provided students with an opportunity to relax, recharge and learn more about healthy living.
The Fall Wellness Festival filled Spirit Park with tables, games and free giveaways. Campus departments and local organizations shared tips on managing stress, improving nutrition and staying active during the semester. Students visited fitness challenges, mental health resource tables and tried a drunk driving obstacle course. The event gave students a chance to enjoy the atmosphere and take a break from busy class schedules.
“I was glad I spread the word and made other students happy,” said USM student Ni’Riyah Bell. “They are giving out real plants there… I even tried the drunk driving cycle. So far, I’m the only one who passed it. You put the goggles on, and it makes you feel like you’re drunk.
The Fall Wellness Festival is a part of the Moffitt Health Center’s ongoing wellness initiative and is held every fall semester.
“Events like the Fall Wellness Festival help create a sense of community on campus,” Moffit Health Center Professional Melanie Blanton said.
The events provide a relaxed setting where students can connect with others, explore campus resources and focus on their overall well-being. Taking part in the events helps students engage more on campus, manage stress and feel connected to the USM community.
As the semester winds down, Blanton hopes students leave with a better understanding of health awareness.
“We hope students leave with a greater awareness of the many resources available to support their health and success,” said Blanton. “Whether it’s information about wellness, mental health or academic support, we want them to use what they learn to make positive choices, care for themselves and others, and stay involved in campus life throughout the year.”
The Southern Miss Fall Wellness Festival wrapped up with a focus on promoting health, connection and wellness across the campus community.
