Students with Southern Miss Student Media represented the University of Southern Mississippi at the Southeast Journalism Conference in Cartersville, Ga., Feb. 5-7, bringing home multiple awards.
SEJC brings together colleges and universities from across the Southeast. Before the conference, schools submit entries for the Best of the South awards. At the conference, students attended lecture sessions covering various areas of journalism. They also participated in on-site competitions before the awards banquet.
At the Best of the South award banquet, the USM’s student media took home the following awards:
Digital Website – 2nd place
Newscast – 3rd place
TV Station – 5th place
Multimedia Journalist – 3rd place

Radio News – 3rd place
Kennedi Drake
Newspaper Designer – 5th place
Cadence Renfro
Attending students won awards in different categories for the on-site competitions. Gabrielle Cox won first place for Podcasting. Drake placed second for Anchoring. Perez-Munoz earned third place for Radio News.
