The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning in Hattiesburg around 7 p.m. Thursday. Although the water cleared out fairly quickly, several students on campus felt the effects.

Jillianne Larson, a Century Park North resident, was on the crosswalk between Century Park North and South when the flooding was at its worst.

“It was like, six inches of water,” Larson said. “My feet got really wet and my shoes were almost ruined. Across the crosswalk, [the water]. was just surging. It was scary.”

Most affected were those residents on the first floor of the Luckyday Building in Century Park South, several of whom had to move across halls and get rid of rugs when water seeped into their dorms.

So far, there have been no reports of actual damage.
