The Southern Miss volleyball team (16-13, 7-6 C-USA) fought back from a 2-0 deficit against Louisiana Tech (6-22, 1-12 C-USA) on Thursday night, winning the last three sets of the contest to earn a 3-2 road victory over the Lady Techsters.

Southern Miss quickly took a 6-0 lead to start the first set. However, LA Tech chipped away at the lead after that Southern Miss run. Later on in the set, an attack error by senior Sarah Bell allowed LA Tech to tie the contest 13-13. Southern Miss kept the score close for the rest of the set, but LA Tech eventually came away with the 25-19 set win. The Lady Techsters also came away with another 25-19 win in set two to achieve a 2-0 set advantage over the Golden Eagles in the game.

In set three, Southern Miss went ahead 8-5 over LA Tech early and never trailed in the set, earning the 25-16 win to force a set four.

The Golden Eagles once again jumped out to a quick lead over the Lady Techsters in set four, but LA Tech kept things competitive in the set, eventually cutting Southern Miss’ lead to 22-21. However, the Golden Eagles responded, scoring three of the final four points scored in the set and winning on a kill from senior Alexis Coombs to tie the game 2-2.

In the deciding fifth set, Southern Miss jumped out to a 4-1 lead early on and never relinquished it for a 15-11 set win to seal the comeback.

Senior Kylie Grandy and junior Catherine Repsher each had 19 kills on the night for Southern Miss. Bell added 53 assists, while sophomore Madison Lawler had 22 digs for the Golden Eagles. Overall, Southern Miss had a .191 hitting percentage in the contest, compared to LA Tech’s .200 hitting percentage mark.

Southern Miss will travel to Denton, Texas on Saturday for its final regular season contest against North Texas at 1 p.m.
