On Friday, Nov. 30, the Oak Grove Warriors competed against the undefeated Horn Lake Eagles for the 6A state football championship at M.M. Roberts Stadium on the Southern Miss campus. Playing in front of a crowd of 9,347 people, many of them Oak Grove fans, Horn Lake earned its first state championship title with a 31-27 win.

Oak Grove senior quarterback John Rhys Plumlee threw three first-half touchdown passes and the Warriors jumped out to a 20-17 halftime lead over the Eagles.

Down 27-24 after three-quarters of play, Horn Lake took the lead with 7:19 in the fourth quarter on a one-yard touchdown run from running back Patrick Gilliam. The Oak Grove offense got the ball back with 2:30 remaining, but Plumlee threw an interception on the fifth play of the drive, sealing the win for Horn Lake.
