Golden Eagles continue indoor track and field season with six wins

Southern Miss’ men and women’s track and field teams traveled to Birmingham, Alabama, for  their second meet of the indoor season at the Samford Invitational Jan. 17 and 18.  

Both teams walked away with three first place finishes. For the men, senior Patton Little finished the mile with a time of 4:13.19. In the 400m relay, the team of junior Kacey Spinks, sophomore Trey Johnson, freshman Landon Chalden and freshman DJ Butler completed the event with a time of 3:16.19. Senior Eric Richards mark of 7’ 0.5” in the high jump earned another first place for Southern Miss. 

For the women, senior standout distance runner Sandra Szpott placed first in the 3000m with a time of 9:44.26. Freshman Ashlee Osaji won the long jump with a mark of 19’ 0.75”. In weight throw, junior Kamelian Style had a distance of 56’ 11.25”. 

The teams will travel to Houston for their next meet, the Houston G-5 and Mid-Major Invitational, on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
