The Southern Miss men’s golf team struggled once again, finishing 11th out of 14 teams at the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, hosted by Vanderbilt.

Alabama won the tournament, shooting five-under par for the three-day event. The next closest team was Vanderbilt who shot four-over par for the tournament.

Southern Miss shot 45-over par for the tournament at the par-71 course. Senior Zach Estep had the best round of all the players who participated in the event for Southern Miss with a 69 in the final round. Estep’s two-under par final round was the only score posted by a Southern Miss player that was under par. However, his other two rounds were both over 80 as he finished tied for 60th overall.

Junior Drew Kirby fared the best overall for Southern Miss, shooting a nine-over par for the weekend, finishing tied for 34th overall. He shot a two-over par 73 in the first round, three-over par 74 in the second and four-over par 75 in the final round.

Senior Trent Hillis finished the tournament tied for 37th with a ten-over par. His best round was the opening round where he posted a one-over par 72 and finished with a six-over 77 in round two and a three-over 74 in the round.

The best overall performer over the weekend was Florida State’s Jack McGuire who finished 10-under par for the tournament. Louisville’s Robin Sciot-Siegrist and Vanderbilt’s Ben Fogler rounded out the top three; each posted a three-under par for the tournament.

The team will continue play Monday, April 7 as they will participate in the Old Waverly Collegiate at the Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss. Teams will play 36 holes Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.

The Golden Eagles have just one more tournament left after the Old Waverly Collegiate before they play in the Conference USA Championships. The Reunion Intercollegiate will be held in Madison, Miss. at the Reunion Golf Club & CC on April 14 and April 15.
