The Southern Miss women’s golf team wrapped up its participation in the Sun Belt Championships on Wednesday at Lakewood Golf Club, finishing eighth overall. Only the top four teams moved on to Thursday’s match-play rounds. Louise Cuyvers had the best performance for the Golden Eagles, finishing fourth in Point Clear. She shot a final-round two-under 70, which included three birdies and an eagle in the first hole. Fernanda Gorostiaga finished with a two-over 74, with four birdies, placing 46th overall. Taylor Trible recorded a three-over 75 and ended tied for 28th. Savannah Van Gaalen also shot a three-over 75, finishing tied for 33rd. Her round included an eagle on the par-five fifth hole, bringing the team’s total to three eagles for the tournament. Alma Betoret, who played as a substitute, shot an 11-over 83. As a team, Southern Miss shot a 294 on Wednesday, which was two strokes higher than Tuesday’s 292, tying for the fifth-best round of the day. ULM, South Alabama and Texas State secured the top three spots to move on to match play. Old Dominion took the fourth spot after winning a playoff against Coastal Carolina with an even-par team performance.
