Kappa Sigma fraternity on the Southern Miss campus recently hosted its Homeruns for Heroes at Pete Taylor Park. The goal of the event was to hit a “homerun,” with the winning team hitting the most.
Chapters who participated paid a $50 fee to enter into the tournament. The proceeds from this event benefit the Military Heroes Campaign, a campaign created by the Kappa Sigma Fraternity that supports veterans in need.
Neal Rachal, the philanthropy chair for Kappa Sigma, was in charge of hosting the event.
“It is a totally Kappa Sig owned organization,” Rachal said. “Which is pretty cool because every other fraternity or sorority has another organization, but we’re supporting Kappa Sigs and their organization.”
The Military Heroes Campaign is a national Kappa Sigma organization. Through this organization, Kappa Sigma chapters raise money through different philanthropic events, each made up by the different chapters. Some chapters host 5K races, golf tournaments and like this one, a baseball event.
“We raise money and do services for people that were veterans and their families,” Rachal said.
The Military Heroes Campaign assists veterans and their families in many aspects, one being financially. And the Kappa Sigma fraternity on the Southern Miss campus is one of many Kappa Sigma chapters that raise money for veterans in need.
