The Chi Omega Sorority at the University of Southern Mississippi held its first-ever “Pie a Chi” fundraiser on Monday, Nov. 11, to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Jackson.
The event, which allowed students to purchase $2 tickets to pie sorority members in the face, was part of a larger effort leading up to Chi Omega’s annual Songfest event. The goal of the fundraiser was to raise $11,000 in a single day, coinciding with Wish Day on Nov. 11.
Chi Omega also uses the Songfest event to crown “Mr. and Mrs. Make-A-Wish,” selecting individuals from both fraternity and sorority life who have shown significant support for the cause. The fraternity and sorority with the highest turnout at the “Pie a Chi” event are awarded the titles.
AG Ganey, a senior marketing major with a graphic design minor, expressed her appreciation for the event’s success in involving the campus community.
“I think this event is important to bring awareness to an amazing philanthropy that we as Chi Omega hold close to our hearts,” Ganey said. “Seeing people from all over campus come and donate to our cause and get to do something fun along with it means a lot to us.”
Chi Omega president Lauren Peden commended her chapter’s dedication to Make-A-Wish.
“My favorite part of the event was seeing how passionate our members were to get pied,” Peden said. “I applaud many of my girls who got pied around 20 times.”
Chi Omega’s annual Songfest, the largest and longest-running philanthropy event on campus, was held yesterday at Reed Green Coliseum. Members of fraternity and sorority life competed in a choral competition to raise additional funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
