Men’s Golf Finishes Seventh at Grove Intercollegiate

The Southern Miss men’s golf team traveled to College Grove, Tennessee for the Grove Intercollegiate tournament to close out the fall season Monday and Tuesday.

Hosted by Middle Tennessee State at the par-72 Grove Country Club, the Golden Eagles competed against 11 other teams.

As a team, Southern Miss shot 17-over par with a score of 308 for the tournament.

Freshman Vasili Kartos shot a 79 at 12-over par, tying for 34th place in the tournament.

Sophomore Ryan Argotsinger finished with the best score for Southern Miss for the tournament, shooting 7-over par with a score of 75 and earning his second top 20 finish and fourth time in his career.

Junior Hayes Weathersby concluded the tournament, shooting 11-over par and tying for a season-best 31st place.

Senior Casey Fernandez shot a 73 in the first, 84 in the second and a 73 in the third round to finish the tournament at 14-over par and tied for 39th place.

Drew Kirby, another senior, shot a 78 in two rounds and an 81 in the final round to finish the tournament 21-over par, tying for 59th place.

Ohio State finished 10-over par to win the tournament while Troy came in second, eight shots below the Buckeyes. GRU-Augusta finished in third at 19-over par.

Other teams that participated in the tournament include MTSU, College of Charleston, Lipscomb, Mississippi State, Tennessee Tech, Cincinnati, Tulsa and Belmont.

Their spring schedule will begin with a trip to Lafayette, Louisiana for the Louisiana Classics March 2 at the Oakbourne Country Club.
