University of Southern Mississippi students and members of the Hattiesburg Nepali Society have created a gofundme account to collect donations for those affected by the earthquake in Nepal April 25.

We request the support of the Southern Miss and Hattiesburg communities in our efforts to secure relief for Nepal,” said Southern Miss student Khem Raj BC, according to Southern Miss Now.

The families of USM Nepalese students are safe, but some have lost their homes in the earthquake. Any support will be greatly appreciated and help our country and its people recover from this disaster.

According to the New York Times, the 7.8 magnitude earthquake left many homeless and killed more than 5,000. The Nepalese government has struggled to get aid, including food, water and tents, to those affected by the disaster.

Our (primary) goal is to rescue the people,” Brig. Gen. Jagadish Pokharel, a spokesman for the Nepalese Army, said to the New York Times. “We are also trying to synchronize it and to distribute to the needy people. We will do our best.

To donate to the gofundme account, visit the donation page or visit the Hattiesburg Nepali Society Facebook page.
