After a joint announcement by both universities, Southern Miss and Alabama will play each other in the 2014 football season. The game is set for Sept. 13, 2014 and will take place at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Marcus Ocmond, a junior student at the university, says he has mixed feelings about the university’s decision to play against Alabama. “ The school needs the football team to win and playing Alabama with the current state of our football team is almost a guaranteed lost,” Ocmond said. “ Although playing lesser quality teams does not help essentially; however, winning games would raise the morale and motivation of the team to keep winning.”
The Golden Eagles and Crimson Tide have met in head-to-head matchups 42 times, the fourth-longest series in Southern Miss history. It will be the first time the two schools have met since the 2005 campaign when Alabama beat Southern Miss, 30-21 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
